For instance, the subject heading <xhtml:b>Horror films</xhtml:b>, \r\n with appropriate subdivisions, would be assigned to a book <xhtml:i>about</xhtml:i> horror \r\n films. A cataloger assigning headings to the movie <xhtml:i>The Texas Chainsaw Massacre</xhtml:i> \r\n would also use <xhtml:b>Horror films</xhtml:b>, but it would be a genre/form term since the \r\n movie <xhtml:i>is</xhtml:i> a horror film, not a movie <xhtml:i>about</xhtml:i> horror films.</xhtml:p>\r\n <xhtml:p>The thesaurus combines both genres and forms. Form is defined as a characteristic \r\n of works with a particular format and/or purpose. A \"short\" is a particular form, \r\n for example, as is \"animation.\" Genre refers to categories of works that are characterized \r\n by similar plots, themes, settings, situations, and characters. Examples of genres are westerns \r\n and thrillers. In the term <xhtml:b>Horror films</xhtml:b> \"horror\" is the genre and \"films\" is \r\n the form.</xhtml:p>\r\n <xhtml:p><xhtml:i>LCGFT</xhtml:i> assumed its title in June 2010 and in May 2011 the \r\n LCCN prefix \"gf\" was implemented to identify Genre/form terms as part of the change to \r\n separate <xhtml:i>LCGFT</xhtml:i> from <xhtml:i>LCSH</xhtml:i>. The \"gf\" prefix is one \r\n way by which a record can be identified as a genre/form authority record.
