- found: Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992:pages 596-597 (John William McGarvey, minister, born on March 1, 1829 near Hopkinsville, Ky. The family moved to Tremont, Ill when John was about 10. Entered Bethany College in Bethany, Virginia (now West Virginia) in April 1847 and graduated in 1850. From the fall of 1850 to January 1853, taught at a boys' school he founded in Fayette, Missouri. In September 1952 he began preaching at the Dover Church in Lafayette County, Missouri, then moved to Lexington, Ky. to become minister of the Main Street Christian Church in 1862. Influenced the founding of the College of the Bible (now Lexington Theological Seminary). Died October 6, 1911 in Lexington.)
