found: Wikipedia, viewed January 21, 2020(Byron Kilbourn was born on September 8, 1801 in Granby, Connecticut. Kilbourn worked as a surveyor for the state of Ohio and in the Wisconsin territory. He founded Kilbourntown, an area west of the Milwaukee River in 1837. He also founded West Bend, Wisconsin in 1845 and Kilbourn City now known as Wisconsin Dells in 1857 when he worked as a highway commissioner for the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature. Kilbourn served in the Wisconsin Territorial House of Representatives in 1845 and was a member of the second Wisconsin Constitutional Convention of 1847. Kilbourn also served as a Milwaukee alderman and was elected to two non-consecutive terms as mayor in 1848 and 1854. Kilbourn became involved in the railroad industry and was president of the Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad and the La Crosse & Milwaukee Railroad. Due to arthritis, Kilbourn moved to Jacksonville, Florida and died there on December 16, 1870)
