(in obituary dated August 27, 2022: Roland Mesnier, the French-born pastry chef who whipped up desserts for five presidents and dignitaries over a quarter of a century in the White House, died Aug. 26 in the town of Burke in Northern Virginia. He was 78. Mr. Mesnier was offered the White House job in 1979. Roland Robert Mesnier was born in Bonnay, in rural eastern France, on July 8, 1944. In 1967, Mr. Mesnier became head pastry chef at the Princess Hotel in Bermuda. In 1976, Mr. Mesnier left Bermuda for the Homestead resort in Hot Springs, Va., where he worked until he joined the Carter White House kitchen; left the White House in 2004)
