found: NYS Legis. Man., 1975, p. 832: Chap. 717, Laws of 1967 ... provided that effective September 1, 1967 consolidation of major state activities in the field of transportation be centered in a new Department of Transportation. The new statute abolished the Department of Public Works and assigned its functions and personnel for transportation planning, the construction, operation and maintenance of highways, and the improvement, operation and maintenance of the State Barge Canal System to the new Department. The Department of Public Works' Division of Architecture was transferred to the Office of General Services of the Executive Department, and Department of Public Works' flood control, shore protection and beach erosion control functions were transferred to the Environmental Conservation Department. Transferred to the new Department of Transportation was the functions and staff of the Office of Transportation of the Executive Department, the functions and staff of the State Traffic Commission, and the aviation functions and staff of the Department of Commerce.
