(The Royal Flying Corps was constituted by a royal warrant on April 13, 1912, and on May 13, 1912, it absorbed the Air Battalion of the Royal Engineers (formed Apr. 1, 1911). On July 1, 1914, the naval wing of the Royal Flying Corps became the Royal Naval Air Service, the military wing continuing as the Royal Flying Corps. On Apr. 1, 1918, the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service were again merged as the Royal Air Force)
