(hdg.: Chase Manhattan Bank, New York; the Bank of the Manhattan Company f. 1799 (also known as Manhattan Company); the Merchants' Bank (org. 1803) became Merchants' National Bank of the City of New York in 1865. Mechanics Bank of New York (org. 1838) became Mechanics National Bank in 1865; in 1910 this merged with National Copper Bank to form the Mechanics and Metals National Bank; in 1920 the Merchants' National Bank of the City of New York merged into the Bank of the Manhattan Company; in 1926 Mechanics and Metals National Bank merged into the Chase National Bank of the City of New York (org. 1877); in 1955 Bank of the Manhattan Company merged with the Chase National Bank of the City of New York to form the Chase Manhattan Bank; in 1965 converted to a national banking association under name: Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A.)
