In 1774 the city was ceded to the Russian Empire as part of the Tavriĭsʹka hubernii︠a︡. The city was reduced to ruines during the Crimean War of 1853-1856. Soviet auhtority was established in Kerch on 01-19-1918. During the 1918-1920 years Kerch was seized by Austro-Hungarian, White Army and Anglo-French troops until it was liberated by the Red Army in 1920. From 1921 Kerch was part of the Krymsʹka ARSR. From 1945 [until 1992] it was part of the Krymsʹka oblastʹ)
