"Doc" Davis: 1902-1995, viewed July 14, 2021:page 1076 (William Bennoni Davis was born March 14, 1902, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Bennoni Washington Davis and Mary Ann Matilda (Owens) Davis. Bill died in his sleep at the age of 92 from kidney failure at his home in Bryan, Texas, on June 19, 1995. Bill graduated from Chico State with a B.A. in Education in 1933. He obtained his Master's degree in 1936, and his Ph.D. in 1937 from University of California at Berkeley. His dissertation, The Recent Mammals of Idaho, was published in 1939. Bill's association with Texas A&M University began in 1937, when he accepted a professorship in the Department of Wildlife Science. Bill served as Head of the Wildlife and Fisheries Department at A&M from 1947 until his retirement in 1965.
