Kisco, New York; raised in Pleasantville, New York; graduated from Ithaca College in 1952; after graduation moved to New York City and worked as an usher and elevator operator at Radio City Music Hall; appeared in "A hateful of rain" on Broadway in 1956; moved to Los Angeles to attempt film and TV; earned a minor reputation as a second-string heavy in crime stories; career more or less flowed and ebbed with minor dramatic roles until 1972 when he was typecast for a role on the Mary Tyler Moore show)
