(Melodiya) p. x (Control of the gramophone industry [in the Soviet Union] is vested in the Ministry of Culture, operating through two organizations: the All-Union Studio of Gramophone Recording and the All-Union Firm of Gramophone Records. The latter now bears the additional name Melodiya, which now appears on all labels along with the trademark showing the capital letter M above a spiral suggestive of a gramophone record. Probably the earliest use of this designation was in 1964. The older style, however, with a device based on the initials of the All-Union Studio and a treble clef sign, continued in use on record lists, and no doubt on some labels, into early 1965; labels of L.P. records from 1951-64 were greatly diversified ... but after 1964 the same label was used in all factories)
