found: Encyc. of Ukraine:v. 3, p. 284-285 (Maksymovych, Mykhailo [Maksymovyč, Myxajlo], b. 09-15-1804 in Poltava guberniia, d. 11-22-1873. Historian, philologist, ethnographer, botanist, and poet. In 1833 he received his PHD at Moscow University, and in 1834 became the fist rector at Kiev University, but retired in 1845 due to ill health.. His erudition was of encyclopedic dimensions, covering fields from botany to history. His studies on Ukrainian folklore were very influential as were his works on Slavic philology and literary studies. As a historian his research into Kievan Rus, the Cossack period, and the Hetmanate were significant for the development of Ukrainian historiography. He also made important contributions in the field of archaeology. The Maksymovych archival collection is located in the manuscript division of the Central Scientific Library of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and partially, in the Central State Archive of Literature and Art in Moscow)
