Préaud records two publishers of this name, uncle and nephew. The elder (1544-1641) is obscure, and is stated by the younger to have introduced the art of engraving to Paris in the years 1573-1614. The younger (recorded in this entry), son of Gabriel (qv), is a major figure, and well documented. Bosse was apprenticed to him in 1620. He retired in 1644, selling his stock partly to Langlois and partly to Pierre Mariette. In the present state of knowledge it is impossible to distinguish their work.)
