[John Harrison Brown was born May 1, 1824 in Mt. Holly, Vermont. He moved to Shakopee, Minnesota in 1855 and was admitted to the bar in 1856. He moved to Willmar, Minnesota in 1871 and published its first newspaper before serving as the first judge of the 12th Minnesota judicial district, 1875-1890.] He had seven children including Calvin Luther Brown, 1854-1923, a lawyer who served on the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1898 to 1923. Montreville Jay Brown, 1884-1910, was the son of Calvin Luther Brown, also a lawyer who served as an assistant attorney general for Minnesota from 1918-1923.
