Gilbert, Josiah H. (Josiah Hotchkiss), 1834-1909

[Josiah Hotchkiss Gilbert (1834-1909), son of Levi (1802-1877), was born 14 October 1834 in Durham, New York. He taught for fifty-four years in Albany, New York schools, much of that time as professor of mathematics at the high school. On 19 August, 1857 he married Miss Abby E. Newell (born 11 April 1835), daughter of Andrus and Julia (Bushnell) Newell of Durham, New York. The two had the following children: Julia Annette Gilbert (1862-), Charles Newell Gilbert (1863-), Archibald Gilbert (1868-), Emma Hope Gilbert (1871-), and Elizabeth Gilbert (1875-). He died 29 August 1909.]
