His appointment coincided with major organizational changes in CSIRO that allowed for greater operational flexibility - a situation to which Ming was closely attuned. The requirement for greater industry involvement in research and the corresponding need to attract industry support were facilitated by Ming's high standard as an engineer, as an academic, and as a person with which to do business. The Division of Coal Technology under Ming became a pacesetter within CSIRO for innovative approaches to CSIRO-industry collaborationand in staff relations. A range of joint research and commercial ventures were established, the Division quickly achieved high levels of external funding and benefited through greater recognition of its scientific and technical developments.) - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/00908319108908975
