- found: New Grove dict. of jazz (Crusaders; hard-bop, later jazz-rock, group; formed in early 50s in Houston as trio called The Swingsters [No publs. in LC data base]; addition of members prompted name change to Modern Jazz Sextet; upon move to Calif., name changed to Night Hawks [No publs. in LC data base] and then to the Jazz Crusaders (1961); change of name to Crusaders (1971) coincident with broadening of musical style)
