He married the artist Idalia Blanche Littlejohns, and worked from Brook Green, London. Together with Leonard RICHMOND, the two would be a major force in art-teaching books for half a century. His books include Art in Schools; Sketching from Nature in Line and Tone; The Technique of Watercolour (with Leonard Richmond) and The Art of Painting in Pastel)
