found: From publisher, June 2, 2020(José Enrique Alférez y Gúzman was born on May 4, 1903, in San Miguel del Mezquital (now Miguel Auza), in the northwestern part of Zacatecas, Mexico. There is inconsistency in how Alférez's birth year is presented, with 1901 and 1903 referenced in separate instances. In many cases, including plaques beside public sculptures and in newspapers, magazines, and catalogs, Alférez's birth date has been published as May 4, 1901. This conflicts with records related to his birth, baptism, immigration status, marriages, and travel, including shipping manifests, which record his birth date as May 4, 1903. Alférez's biographical sketch--which gives his birth year as 1903--appeared in a catalog for his exhibition at the El Paso Museum of Art in November 1961. The Peggy Alférez Family Papers include a copy of the catalog in which his wife Peggy corrected a few errors in the margins by hand, but Alférez's birth year, 1903, stands uncorrected. There is a possibility that Alférez was uncertain about the year himself; through discussions with his daughter Tlaloc, I learned that he was unaware that his birth record existed)
