(Henry Avray Tipping; historian, academic, garden designer; born Château de Ville-d'Avray, near Versailles, France, 1855; he began writing articles for The Garden; after The Garden became absorbed by Country Life in 1905, Tipping became one of Country Life's principal contributors; in 1907 he was appointed as the magazine's Architectural Editor, and became recognised as one of the leading authorities on the history, architecture, furnishings and gardens of country houses in Britain; died Harefield House, Harefield, Middlesex, 16 November, 1933, at the age of 78)
