He was later a printer during a period of great change"; born at Cookham Dean, Berkshire; attended Eton; during the Second World War, joined the Royal Navy Submarine Service; after the war, attended Trinity College, Oxford; became captain of Trinity College Boat Club and was a member of the Oxford crew in the 1948 Boat Race; in 1950 he won the Diamond Challenge Sculls at Henley; took part in the 1950 British Empire Games; coached the Oxford boat from 1954 to 1956 and in 1963; started career as printer with the Pitman Press at Bath; in 1954 the firm bought Western Printing Services and Rowe became its manager; the firm printed the first unexpurgated edition of Lady Chatterley's lover for Penguin Books (1960); returned to Pitman Press in 1972 and specialized in short-run printing (100 copies or fewer); retired from Pitman in 1983, after which he established Antony Rowe Ltd, which has since become part of the CPI printing group; "never lived far from Bath" and died in Upper Swainswick, Somerset)
