When US 99 was shifted from its route through Duluth to the present route of I-5 in the early 1940s, SSH 1S was extended south from Duluth along old US 99 to new US 99; today the portion of SSH 1S from Woodland to Battle Ground is part of SR 503; SSH 1S from Battle Ground to I-5 Exit 10 is now SR 502)
