In this episode of the serial, the three attend a ball which Mary gives to provide Frank Norwood a chance to court Margaret and to estrange Margaret from Horace. That night, Mary puzzles over a message on her mirror threatening Horace and signed "The Veiled Woman." The next day, Horace grows increasingly jealous of Frank and argues with him and with Margaret. Horace is then nominated for Congress but a ratification meeting is disrupted by Edgar Doyle who has teamed with Bull Brady, a corrupt politician.
