Horace continues to search for Margaret and nearly finds her. Frank Norwood helps her hide and then escape from Horace. Edgar Doyle and Bull Brady plot with Horace's stock broker in yet another attempt to ruin Horace, and Edgar again sends a gang member to search for compromising letters. When Horace falls for the broker's bogus tip, he begins speculating and losing heavily. Mary learns of this and enlists Frank's aid to secretly use her money to save Horace. Frank proposes to Margaret as a way of protecting her from Horace whom she fears but still loves. She refuses.
