Summary
In this chapter, Pearl Dare and several others attempt to possess the valuable Panama Canal defense plans. Toko, Pearl's chauffeur, secures the plans for Bolero and in return asks freedom for Bertha Bonn and himself. Only Toko is allowed to leave. Meanwhile, the mysterious T.O. Adams seems to favor Bolero's cause. When Pearl is captured by Bolero and his bandits, Adams protects her. During a drunken party, Pearl and Bertha try to escape with the plans. Bertha succeeds and gives the plans to Colonel Dare, Pearl's father, but Pearl is wounded, recaptured and condemned to be shot. Adams is appointed her executioner.
