Summary
Mickey lives out west before she is sent to her relatives back east, the Drakes, now that she is emerging into womanhood. However, the Drakes treat her shabbily, especially when Mickey becomes a rival for Herbert Thornhill, the suitor of the family's marriageable daughter. After saving Mickey from rape by Reggie Drake, Mickey and Herbert depart for the west, where a rich vein has been discovered in the mine Mickey inherited from her father.
