Summary
Charley Parkes, a shy bachelor who lives with his mother, is fired from his job for being "unable to fit in". Instead of looking for work, Charley spends his days at the museum watching a dollhouse display, within which is a miniature woman whom appears to Charley to be alive. His family, believing he is losing touch with reality, has him committed to an institution, where Charley seems to recover his sanity and is released, only to return to the museum where he mysteriously disappears. Only the guard realizes that Charley has finally found his way into the dollhouse display to live forever with his beloved doll.
