Summary
Portraits of poet George Sterling, including one childhood portrait, but primarily from his years at his home and artists' colony in Carmel, California. Includes photographs of Sterling with writer-friends Joaquin Miller, Charles Warren Stoddard, Robinson Jeffers, Bliss Carman, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Mary Hunter Austin, Jack London, and Porter Garnett. Includes one photo of Sterling's home and birthplace in Sag Harbor, New York; several images of his residence in Carmel, California; family portraits of Sterling's wife, Caroline Reed Sterling, his parents, and his maternal grandfather; one photograph of a bust of Sterling done by Henry Von Sabern; and a view of St. Charles College, Maryland. Also included is a letter (dated 1935) from the Arnold Genthe Studio addressed to Sterling's friend and biographer, Henry Dumont. The letter acknowledges the mailing of a Genthe portrait to Mr. Dumont.
