Summary
A National Defense Test Day broadcast featuring a WEAF-WCAP network of eighteen stations. Broadcasters and the military join forces in this ninety-minute program aired to demonstrate how radio could respond to national emergencies through the interconnection of stations in various cities. This broadcast marked the first major demonstration of multiple remote cut-ins on a single program, with engineers in fourteen cities responding on cue, followed by two-way conversations between General Pershing and generals representing each of the Army Corps areas. Engineers flawlessly shift from point to point along a coast-to-coast network demonstrating techniques that would become essential in the years to come.
