Summary
Black and white photographs show exterior views and details of buildings and monuments of historical and artistic interest in cities of Estonia and Latvia, ca. 1944. Includes views in Tallinn, Estonia of the13th century castle with it's high protective tower; of murals in the church of St. Nicholas. Includes views in Narva, Estonia including the 13th century powder towe; market square and houses. Includes views in Riga, Latvia of the Petrikirche of exterior, interior and steeple; Griechisch-Katholische cathedral; Marien-Domkirche; houses; statue of St. George; Rathaus and views in the old city. Also includes views from Jelgava, Jaunpils, and Rundāles pils (Schloss Rundale) in Latvia and views from Saha, Pärnu and Ridala in Estonia. Associated with the "Führerauftrag Monumentalmalerei," an official German project to photograph immovable works of art threatened by bombing during the war, 1943-45.
