Summary
Collection of field recordings of oral history interviews with iron workers in Wisconsin and Illinois conducted by folklorists James P. Leary and Bucky Halker (Clark D. Halker), with photographs, interview logs, and transcripts from 2011-2013. Some interviews were conducted by Bucky Halker at the IWU (Iron Workers Union) national convention at the Sheraton Hotel on the Chicago River in Chicago, 2011. Some photographs are digital copies of the interviewees' photographs documenting building and bridge construction, topping out ceremonies, and other events, circa 1963 to 1990s. Most photographs of structures, ornamental ironwork, ironworkers' homes and families were taken by the interviewers in 2011. The collection includes a book of illustrations of ironworkers and ironworking by Blair Kennedy titled: Our tribute to Blair Kennedy : an Ironworker & Illustrator printed by the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers and I.M.P.A.C.T., 2010. Collection includes a recording of the songs "The Man from Connemara" (circa 1990) and "An Caisideach Bán (Fair-Haired Cassidy)" sung by Jimmy "Horse" Keane, Local 1 IWU iron worker in 1974, submitted with an interview of Jimmy Keane, son of Jimmy "Horse" Keane.
