Raskob trying to pull a reluctant old-fashioned gentleman with white mustache and goatee (labeled "Southern Democracy") to the edge of a mountain over which he can see a wide valley labeled "Wet Victory." Raskob says, "I'm not asking you to do anything but look it over carefully." In 1928, the Democratic nominee for president, Al Smith, had been defeated in part because party members in the South, offended by his support for the repeal of Prohibition, had defected to support his Republican opponent Herbert Hoover. After the election, Raskob, an ardent Wet, worked to convince the Southerners that support for repeal would bring victory in 1932.
