Summary
Cartoon shows Alabama governor and Democratic Party presidential candidate George Wallace as an Indian snake charmer. A snake, the copperhead vote, comes out of a pot labeled "Wisconsin." Wallace made a good showing in the Wisconsin Democratic primary, receiving 34% of the vote during the April 7 election. He ran as an opponent to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, hence the allusion to the post-Civil War copperheads.
