"朱德传"依据的主要资料是中央档案馆保存的朱德五千余件文稿, 电报, 书信, 讲话记录, 他所参加的中共中央, 全国人大常委会和从工农红军到人民解放军的重要会议记录, 他的大量工作笔记;还有, 朱德在一九三七年口述, 由他的秘书孙泱等记录的, 八万字左右的"朱德自传"稿本.此外, 编者还走访了许多同朱德有过直接接触的人, 广泛查阅了各种报刊和回忆录等.力求根据可靠的第一手资料, 写出比较翔实的信史.
