Summary
Angelique, known as Angel, moves from France to the United States to marry American architect, John Smith. The newlyweds set up housekeeping in Los Angeles, California. She tries her best to be a good housewife but sometimes runs into problems as she learns English and adapts to her new life and culture. In this episode, Angel prepares her first company dinner for friends. She consults the newspaper ads and goes from store to store to get the best deals for items on her grocery list. At one store, the manage is a Frenchman, and they haggle over the price of the produce. At the dinner, the husbands, George and Sam, are impressed with Angel's frugality, as well as her good looks. The wives, Susie and Marion, seem to take the less than favorable comparison with good humor. However, the next day they take Angel shopping and convince her that the wardrobe of an American wife should reflect well on her husband. On their advice, she buys expensive clothes to make Johnny look like a good American husband. Johnny figures out what has happened, and has the last laugh. He calls to thank Greorge and Sam for their generosity--Susie and Marion have purchased all Angel's new clothes on their husband's credit cards, as she had no cash of her own
