Diary kept by Hall while serving with the 14th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Confederate States of America Army, describing the Peninsular Campaign, 1862, and the battles of Antietam, Md. (1862), Chancellorsville, Va. (1863), Gettysburg, Pa. (1863), the Wilderness, Va. (1864), and Spotsylvania Court House, Va. (1864), as well as operations along the Rappahannock and Rapidan rivers in the fall of 1863. Includes information pertaining to his life as a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware (Del.), camp life, casualties, deserters, disease, enlistments, guerilla warfare, hospital care, military organization, prisoners of war, and troop movements. Also contains prayers, songs, and a portion of the diary (1862 January 1-June 26) of Jacob L. Elsesser, U.S. Army soldier who served with the 38th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army.
