Summary
Extracts (1775 June 18-1802 March 21) from a letterbook kept by Dunbar including correspondence as well as a biographical sketch. Documents Dunbar's years as a merchant in Philadelphia, Pa.; surveyor for the Spanish colony of West Florida; and owner of The Forest, a plantation near Natchez, Miss. Subjects include the Indian trade, slaves, slavery, and slave trade. Also includes a description of Dunbar's manuscripts which were deposited with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, Jackson, Miss., prepared by William Beer in 1921.
