1. United States. Office for Emergency Management. The Airacobra assembly line at Bell Aircraft's new Niagara Falls plant. An endless chain conveyor sunk into the floor provides constant motion of the line. Six such lines will be in operation at the plant in winter. Simplicity is the feature of this assembly line system developed for production experts at Bell Aircraft. There are fourteen stations on the line. Parts are manufactured at the original Bell Aircraft plan in Buffalo and conveyed to Niagara Falls, thirteen miles away, in special trailer trucks. The front fuselage section swings into the conveyor production line on individual dollies at one end of the plant. At Station No. 5 the Allison V-type engine and drive shaft are installed. As the dolly moves up the line the cabin is attached; then the rear fuselage section is swung into place, after which comes armor plate, armament, propeller, and then the fuselage is ready for the wings which are taking shape in a department running parallel to the assembly line [between 1940 and 1946]
