7. Portrait of America. No. 36. Rural electrification in the U.S. This electric milk-cooling tank on an American farm takes the place of the old fashioned inefficient and expensive ice-cooling method. This compact unit, operated by the small electric motor at the left, enables U.S. dairy farmers to expand their operations immensely in providing dairy products for the armed forces and the United Nations war effort. Power and light for this U.S. farm are supplied through a farmers' rural electric cooperative [between 1940 and 1946]
