2. Hollem, Howard R. Bantam, Connecticut. War workers' homes. The war has brought approximately a thirty-three percent increase in housing facilities in Bantam--an eighty-unit federally financed housing project about five minutes from the Warren McArthur factory. The first forty units--two to a house, were occupied in early January 4, 1942 and the second forty had already been rented pending completion. As the automobiles and tires of workers in Bantam's defense industries wear out, it is probable that additional new housing facilities will be needed 1942 Jan

12. Hollem, Howard R. Bantam, Connecticut. Much of the food that is served in Bantam homes is bought at the local First National Store, part of New England's leading food chain. Manager Charley Dempsey, who admits that he sometimes takes off his hat when sleeping, hopes soon to get a larger store with a full line of meats, but is worried about the difficulty in getting meat cases. He's very pleased about the increase in his business, which has meant larger weekly checks for him, and has increased his staff from one boy part-time two years ago to three full-time and one part-time now. He looks for an even greater volume when the second forty units of the new housing project are completed. Charley, who was in the Army during the last war, and all his employees are natives of Bantam. The main difference rising food prices have meant to Bantam housewives, says Dempsey, is that whereas they used to order without bothering to ask the price, they now ask the price, then say what they want

13. "With all my worldly things I thee endow" means something in Albania. When an Albanian girl, no matter how poor, gets married, she brings with her a "hope chest", containing everything she owns. Here is shown a "hope chest" being carried to the bride's new home on a pack horse led by the "ushers" at the wedding. It's a most gorgeous affair of magenta and green and blue and yellow. And nowadays it's safe to assume that it contains some second hand clothing from America, distributed in Albania by the A.R.C
