found: NUCMC data from Montana Historical Society for Her Diary, 1868(Mary E. Cook; Mary E. Vining was born in Genessee County, Mich., in 1817, the daughter of R.W. and Lydia Vining; in 1838 she married Hiram Cook; he moved to Montana in 1864; Mary and their children came up the Missouri River on the steamboat Henry Adkins in 1868; the couple lived for a number of years in Jefferson County and then later moved to the Bitterroot Valley; mother of Mary Cook and mother-in-law of Mary E. Douglas Cook (b. 1862))
