found: NUCMC data from Maine Hist. Soc. for His Scrapbook, ca. 1878-1882(Augustus W. Corliss was born Mar. 25, 1837 in North Yarmouth, Me. He served in the Civil War, with various regiments, including the Rhode Island cavalry. Corliss fought at Harper's Ferry, Va. and Antietam, Md. in Sept. 1862, as well as other battles. Throughout a military career that spanned more than forty years, Corliss served at a variety of frontier posts, and as major of the Seventeenth Cavalry he served in the Cuban Campaign of the Spanish-American War. He was later governor of Binario in the Philippines, and also deployed to China to aid in putting down the Boxer Rebellion. A special act of Congress appointed Corliss to the grade of brigadier general on the retired list in recognition of his military service. While serving in the Army, Corliss produced and published Old Times of North Yarmouth, Me., a quarterly magazine devoted to the town's early history. The magazine, published in thirty-two quarterly issues, spanned Jan. 1, 1877, through Oct. 1, 1884. After his retirement, Corliss lived in Denver, Colo., where he died Sept. 4, 1908)
