Rektory MGTU "MAMI", 2004:p. 2-15 (the beginning of MAMI dates back to 1865-1866 when a vocational and then a technical school were established: namely the Kommissarovskoe tekhnicheskoe uchilishche, then in 1916 the Imperatorskoe Kommisarovskoe tekhnicheskoe uchilishche (IKTU). In 1919 the IKTU was reorganized as the 1-ĭ Moskovskiĭ mekhaniko-ėlektrotekhnicheskiĭ tekhnikum im. M.V. Lomonosova [no publs. in LC data base]. On 8 December 1920 the tekhnikum was renamed the Prakticheskiĭ mekhniko-ėlektrotekhnicheskiĭ institut imeni M.V. Lomonosova [no publs. in LC data base]. In 1922 this institut was again renamed as the Moskovskiĭ mekhaniko-ėlektrotekhnicheskiĭ institut imeni M.V. Lomonosova [no publs. in LC data base] and in 1924 this institut was again renamed as the Moskovskiĭ mekhanicheskiĭ institut imeni M.V. Lomonosova. In 1930 the name changed again to the Moskovskiĭ avtotraktornyĭ institut imeni M.V. Lomonosova [no publs. in LC data base]. In 1932 on the basis of this institut the Moskovskiĭ avtomekhnicheskiĭ institut imeni M.V. Lomonosova was established [no publs. in LC data base]. In 1936 this institut was merged into the Moskovskiĭ mekhaniko-mashinostroitelʹnyĭ institut. However, on 3 July 1939 the Moskovskiĭ avtomekhanicheskiĭ institut was reestablished. On 24 December 1992 the Moskovskiĭ avtomekhanicheskiĭ institut which had existed from 1939 to 1992 was reorganized as the Moskovskai︠a︡ gosudarstvennai︠a︡ akademii︠a︡ avtomobilʹnogo i traktornogo mashinostroenii︠a︡ (MAMI) [no publs. in LC data base]. Finally in late 1997 the MAMI was again renamed as the Moskovskiĭ gosudarstvennyĭ tekhnicheskiĭ universitet "MAMI")
