Apprenticed to William Strickland of Philadelphia in October 1932, then returned to Kentucky as the first Kentuckian who was a professionally trained architect. The Kentucky statehouse had burned during the year of his apprenticeship and his design was selected in 1827 to be used for the statehouse, which was completed in 1830. He returned to Lexington where he was the architect for Transylvania's Morrison Hall and then moved to Frankfort to construct the Franklin County Courthouse. In 1835 his design was chosen for the Jefferson County Courthouse, though numerous mishaps occured during its construction. Died June 19, 1880 in Louisville, Ky.)
