He was 84. Dr. Theoharis, a professor emeritus of history at Marquette University in Milwaukee, was widely considered the dean of FBI scholars. Athanasios George Theoharis was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 3, 1936. At 16, he earned a scholarship to the University of Chicago. Dr. Theoharis initially studied political science, and received bachelor's degrees in 1956 and 1957, a master's degree in 1958 and a doctorate in history in 1965. He taught at what is now Texas A&M University, Wayne State University in Detroit and the College of Staten Island before joining Marquette in 1969)
