In 1540, the two united as the Masters or Governors of the Mystery and Commonalty of the Barbers and Surgeons of London, known as the Barber-Surgeons' Company. This union was dissolved in 1745, at which time the Surgeons were incorporated under the name of the Master, Governors and Commonalty of the Art and Science of Surgeons of London, known as the Surgeons' Company or Company of Surgeons.
