R. D. Tata continued as Chairman until 1977; the company was renamed Air India International Limited, and domestic services were transferred to Indian Airlines; in 2007 Air India and Indian Airlines were merged under Air India Limited; in late 2019 the Government decided to sell 100% share of the airline; on 27 January 2022 the airline was officially handed over to Tata Group, thus being re-privatized)
