found: HJ News (website), viewed July 22, 2023:Theodore W. Daniel (Theodore W. Daniel, 96, died on Friday, July 30, 2004, in Logan. He was born on Nov. 16, 1907, in San Francisco. His parents were John and Margaret Daniel and his sister was Marguerite. He married Bernice Starr in 1935; they divorced in 1945. Ted married Utah State University/s Dean of Women, Ione Bennion in 1947. They remained together until her death in 1998. "Doc" Daniel was a pioneer of American forestry. He started by swinging an ax in the north woods of Canada and went on to study forestry at the University of California, Berkeley, where he received a bachelor/s in 1934 and a doctorate in 1942. He was an active member of the Society of American Foresters for his entire career and was elected Fellow in 1983. Ted spent a lifetime of service to natural resources by contributing to the professional development of foresters. He joined the faculty at USU in 1944, and his reputation as a demanding and effective teacher became the stuff of legends. He has had an incredible impact on forestry through his influence on generations of students. The T.W.
