found: NUCMC data from Langston University for College publications, 1900-1999(Langston University was established as a land grant college in 1897; the Colored Agricultural and Normal University opened in 1898 in a Presbyterian Church to instruct male and female Colored persons in the art of teaching common and higher education in the agricultural, mechanical and industrial arts; later built on land purchased with funds raised by the local Black community, the college in addition to the town were named for John Mercer Langston (1829-1897), a Black Virginian educator who organized the first Department of Law at Howard University, later serving as Acting President of the university and president of Virginia State College for Negroes; school became Langston University in 1941)
