Fath, Creekmore West, 1916-2009

[Creekmore West Fath (b. May 1, 1916, McAlester, Oklahoma-d. June 25, 2009, Austin, Texas), lawyer. Fath grew up in Cisco and Fort Worth, Texas, and his family moved to Austin, Texas in 1931. He received his law degree from the University of Texas in 1939, and began practicing law in Austin. In 1940 he left his practice in Austin and moved to Washington, D.C. to work as a staff attorney with a House committee that was investigating the plight of migrant workers, and from 1941 to 1947 he held several positions in President Franklin Roosevelt's administration. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. In 1947 he married Adele Hay and returned to Austin, where he resumed his private practice and became involved with the Democratic Party in Texas. He was an avid collector of Thomas Hart Benton lithographs, and wrote a book on Benton in 1969. Fath is interred in Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin, Texas.]
